Like I have mentioned by now around a dozen times, I have never been into romance books. However, I decided to give the genre a chance after seeing several recommendations on TikTok.
I am in absolute shock after finding myself actually wanting to read more. These were my top three choices– I will probably continue to add more as I keep reading.
- The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas
This book. I am completely speechless (but for the sake of this article, I will give you some brief opinions)!
While the story doesn’t seem entirely realistic, which is normally the case in order to make a romance book have some tension, the characters are very relatable. The plot itself moves progressively. Even more interesting, when you think the story is coming to an end– boom. Another subplot is introduced, and the story continues.
To give a brief summary, the story narrates the journey of a girl, Catalina, who works in NYC. However, she has to go back to Spain to celebrate her sister’s wedding– and the groom’s brother is her ex-boyfriend. For this reason, she needs to find a fake date.
That’s all I will say for now – but I was completely surprised by this book.
2. Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
This was the first romance book I read because I have seen it on Tiktok. Unlike perhaps The Spanish Love Affair, this story focuses strongly on their love– not as many subplots are introduced. However, like always, there is a secret that prevents the characters from fully falling in love.
The main character’s brother is a pilot, and his best friend ends up falling in love with his sister when she moves into the building. Secrets, tension, friendships, love– everything is at stake.
3. The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
I was a bit hesitant to read this book because I knew it could not be very relatable and realistic. The fact that everyone gets a virus except for the two main characters felt unreal to me. However, I gave it a try because I have heard a lot of things about it.
While my initial thought was not false, I found myself intrigued by the story. Again, this story moves progressively. The characters go from hating each other to falling in love. This is part of what made it very hard to grasp: it all happened in ten days.
With that being said, there is tension and depth. Definitely a book I would recommend. It’s very easy to read, and you will not want to put it down– hence why I read it in a day.
